Van Saun County Park: Why You Should Go Today

By far, Van Saun County Park was one of the best places we visited this summer. This park offers a variety of activities for families, like ours, with children of all ages, making it an ideal destination for a fun-filled day out. From a captivating zoo to multiple playgrounds, there’s something to do for everyone at Van Saun.

The heart of this park undoubtedly lies in its Bergen County Zoo. Home to a fascinating display of North American animals, the zoo is a must-visit for all North Jersey residents. From the Mountain Lions to the Spotted Turtles, there’s always something new to discover. While we were there, we took a ride on the Bergen County Miniature Railroad for a fun trip through the zoo. For just $2 per person, the kids and I had a blast.

Once we explored the animal kingdom, we headed to the park's playgrounds. This expansive area is a haven for children, featuring towering monkey bars, slides, and swings that kept them entertained. In the midst of the heat, the kids would have loved the newly renovated splash pad, but they were too spent to try it! Instead, we enjoyed a packed meal from home at the nearby picnic grounds.

Next, for a touch of adventure – and just $3 per lap – the kids saddled up for a pony ride. The experience was magical for them, and for my little one, who loves animals, it was a dream come true. It was no surprise that when they saw more ponies on the carousel outside, they were eager to ride!

Following the carousel ride, we took a comfortable stroll through the historic Washington Spring, the Continental Army’s main water source when this was their encampment in the 1780s. Then, my oldest one and husband played a few games of tennis on one of the twelve courts.

To end our day, we headed to the duck pond. While my husband and eldest took some rest while watching the ducks, my little one and I went out to fish.

We all had a fun-filled and exciting day at the park, and I know you will too. So don’t hesitate, go today!
